Health officials in Pibor reported on Friday a decline in the number of cholera cases following weeks of vaccination campaigns in the communities.
In the past two weeks, the Pibor administrative area launched a cholera vaccination campaign targeting over 250,000 people across Pibor.
Speaking to this publication, Achon John, the Minister for Health in the Pibor administrative area, says cholera cases have relatively reduced in recent weeks compared to previous months.
“Up to now, the cases have reduced in the hospitals; the number of patients recorded now is 11 in all the facilities since yesterday, and today, there are no death cases reported. This is actually in the areas where there is health intervention.’’
He states that there are zero death cases being reported at the health facilities.
Hon. Achon noted that more than 3000 cholera patients have been successfully discharged from different health facilities in Pibor since the beginning of the campaign.
“This is actually the cumulative number of discharged patients from all the facilities. This number was recorded before vaccination began.’’
He added that the decline in cholera cases follows the vaccination campaign.
“Well, I can tell the national government and its partners to help us. There are some areas that were not covered during the campaign due to limited time. Now we have been told to conduct the mop-up campaign; this will help us cover those areas that don’t have road accessibility.’’
John appeals to the national Ministry of Health and its partners to support health services in the remote villages facing poor road accessibility.
