Harlotry kills like Covid. It burns like wild fire. It poisons like black mamba, the most poisonous snake in Africa.
It destroys like major earthquake. It maddens like Marijuana. It breaks like diamond. It disconnects like fight over money. Its taste is sweeter than honey for a minute but bitter than concentrated boiled Neem leaves for life. Harlotry, harlotry…….!
In 2017, a man caught his wife with another man red-handed in his own bedroom. The man caught with the woman was a UN worker. The man who caught them was a soldier. Fortunately or unfortunately, the man had a gun. He first shot the man with his wife dead. Finishing the man, he shot his wife dead. Then, he shot himself dead. Three people were all dead in the room. Harlotry brought their death in just a minute.
What if the man thought twice? What if he took them to police? What if he went away and cools his anger? What if he forgave his wife and begins a new life with her again? He could not think of any other option than killing the two and himself. Of course, he understood so well that harlotry is worse than anything but he forgot that killing the man, his wife and himself is worse than harlotry.
There was this village in Upper Nile region. A man caught his bride on bed with another man. He took his gun and killed the man. The brothers of the man came for revenge. The village got into a serious fight. More than fifty men including the groom and his five brothers were lost that day.
What do you think? Did that become good for the village? Only one woman caught in harlotry brought the loss of more than fifty able men. What if the groom thought of forgiving his bride? What if he investigated what could be the problem? Yes, harlotry is evil but is it compared to losing fifty strong men in the village? There must be a way to deal with harlotry than shedding blood. No one regrets in the grave. The dead man feels nothing painful in the grave. You better teach him a lesson while alive.
Once upon a time, a man lived in South Sudan. The man married a beautiful woman. They stayed for ten years in marriage without a child. Two of them remained faithful to each other for the ten years. The man could take the woman for medication leaving himself. He visited many doctors but they did not find anything bad with her. The woman suggested that the man should also see the doctor. The man took it as an insult. He accused his wife of calling him impotent. His wife explained that she didn’t mean to call him impotent. She just felt concerned because the doctors could not find anything wrong with her.
When the man refused to see the doctor, they stayed again for five more years. The five years ended and the woman thought of trying herself elsewhere. As a normal practice in the society, when such a thing happens, a woman is advised to test herself with another man. That is the only solution because if the problem is with the man, the man can never accept unless the woman proofs it with another man. In that society, no man accepts to be known as impotent. Though one is born impotent, he has to pretend and keeps his wife without a child for life.
The woman knew the decision she took was going to be dangerous. But she took it to remove her shame. A woman without a child is a cursed woman in that society. No one respects such a woman and she is termed wicked. So, she had to steal behind the man to proof herself innocent.
The day she slept with the man she went to, she became pregnant. She began showing the signs of pregnancy. People started asking her about the miracle which was soon to happen. She could not reveal it to anyone until it became visible for everyone. She was four months pregnant and people practically saw that she was truly pregnant.
When the man learned that his wife was pregnant. He started investigating his wife how the pregnancy came. He knew he was not the one since he knew himself. He beat the woman to reveal the man who impregnated her. The woman was honest. She revealed the man.
When the stupid man knew the man who impregnated his wife, he took his gun and went secretly to meet the man. He got the man also with his gun. The two men fought. Unfortunately or fortunately the husband of the woman was shot in the legs. All his two legs got broken. The other man refused to finish him up but went away. People came for his rescue. He was taken to the hospital.
When he was taken back home, the case was taken to the chief. The chief set up a team to take the man for sperm test. He said he could condemn anyone before he knew the truth. The man was taken and result came that the man was impotent.
When the chief got every detail about the man, he called the parents of the woman and the man. He also called the parents of the man who impregnated the woman. He condemned the husband of the woman for punishing the woman for fifteen years. He knew he was impotent but hid it without revealing it to the woman. He found the woman innocent. The chief didn’t condemn the man who impregnated the woman. Instead he gave him a gift. The man took that risk to rescue the woman. Otherwise, the woman was going to live with shame for life.
In many societies, the harlotry of a woman is condemned more than the harlotry of a man. A man is given right to go for as many women as he desires. Some men come home with women who are not legally their wives in the presence of their wives and expect their legal wives to just watch them. When a woman is barren, culture says she should be divorced. And when a man is impotent, the man should not be divorced. Come on! What is it? Man’s wrong is normal. A woman’s wrong is abnormal.
To finish the stories, there lived a man of God. He had a woman who could go to countless men. We all know a man of God should not take a woman used by other men. In many pulpits, it is preached that it is only when a woman commits adultery that she should be divorced.
But when the man of God reported to God about his wife, God instructed the man to take his harlot wife back. God told him he must not divorce though she goes for thousand men. What do you think? Is God against himself?
When the man of God complained, God told him that he was teaching him a lesson. God told him that his relationship with wife is unbroken as His relationship with humanity is eternal. God forgives sinners. With that the man of God had no reason to give up on his wife. His wife was still his wife though a harlot.
The world is fall of rebellions. This year the country is united. Next year the country is divided. With the matter of fact, there are always rebels who will run to the bush. The concern of this article is acceptance verses repulsion. They have run away from us. Should they be accepted back to be part of us again or should they be repelled for good since they had rebelled against us?
In 1983, the SPLA/M movement was formed to fight the injustice of the Arab North. Frequent wars were fought but in 2005, a permanent peace known as Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed between the North Sudan and South Sudan. We forgot the past and accepted that peace must prevail.
In 2013 and 2016, Dr Riek Machar rebelled against His Excellency President Salva Kiir Mayardit. Now, my big question is why the two leaders can’t accept to forgive one another. I have heard of the president saying that he has forgiven Dr Riek and Dr Riek saying that he has forgiven the president. But what is it that the birds of the forest are still celebrating? African elders used to keep their promises. Maybe these are 21st century elders. Or maybe it is a political game! I have no idea.
With the years I have lived, I have seen brothers fighting but they eat together again. I have seen sisters fighting but you see them discussing their lovers together again. I have seen bulls fighting but I have seen that they work together again.
Talk about the dogs for example. Dogs like to fight. But honestly the movement one ceases barking, the other ceases barking as well. They just continue to move together. If mere animals can accept peace, what about human beings created in the image of God?
This is very true and one should believe it! You cannot avoid anyone. You cannot erase the identity of any living being. If you kill the person, the guilt will remain with you and disturb you throughout your life. Never give up on anyone. Learn to forgive. Be kind to the nation.
