By Philip Buda Ladu

President Salva Kiir Mayardit has called upon newly sworn-in government ministers to revive education and transport sectors.

The president urges the two ministers to inject fresh momentum into crucial sectors of South Sudan’s development, focusing particularly on higher education and transport logistics.

During a swearing-in ceremony held on Friday, President Kiir issued specific directives to the new appointees, urging them to prioritize reforms that address pressing national needs.

He tasked Madut Biar Yel, the newly appointed Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, with the revitalization of the country’s tertiary education system.

The Head of State emphasized the urgent need for innovative reforms to improve academic institutions and elevate the quality of education for South Sudanese students.

Furthermore, President Kiir instructed Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin, the new Minister of Transport, to expedite the development of South Sudan’s dry port in Naivasha, Kenya.

He emphasized the critical role of efficient cargo handling and transport logistics in mitigating the rising cost of commodities within the nation.

Both Ministers pledged their unwavering commitment to enhancing the performance of their respective ministries for the betterment of South Sudan.

The ceremony was also attended by representatives of the South Sudan Opposition Alliance (SSOA) and the Former Detainees (FDs), who reiterated their full commitment to the peace agreement and pledged to uphold unity and peace throughout the country.

On Wednesday, 7th, May, 2025 the president Salva Kiir sacked the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Gabriel Changson Chang and appointed Madut Biar Yel as his successor immediately upon relief from the ministry of transport, while the longtime opposition leader, Dr. Lam Akol Ajawin was appointed as minister of transport in presidential decrees read over state-run SSBC.

As usual, there was no reason cited for the mini cabinet reshuffle, however President Kiir had stated last year that he was looking for solutions to fix the country’s economic and political instability that’s why he appoint someone today and fires him tomorrow until he gets that right person he will stick to..!

President Kiir’s directives highlighted the government’s focus on addressing key developmental challenges, particularly in education and trade, as South Sudan navigates its path towards stability and prosperity.
