Police patrol operation against gang activities in Bor town has stopped due to fuel shortages for the vehicles.
Bor town police patrol was a daily routine aimed at combating gang activities.
1st Lt. James Akech, the spokesperson of the police in Jonglei State confirmed the patrol operation has not been active in recent weeks due to fuel shortage.
“You know we are operating under Chapter 1, and given this chapter, it doesn’t reflect the operation cost,’’ Akech said.
He discloses that the police service in Jonglei, is facing inadequate budget to ease operations in the town.
Akech added that the local roads connecting Bor town are becoming impossible due to rainwater, which also hinder police operations.
“We have only a few main roads in Bor; the rest are feeder roads that connect the blocks. Those feeder roads have not been graded now since it’s rainy season, all of them are flooded. This is another challenge that has prompted the decision to suspend the patrol in town,’’ he revealed.
He said, issues of gang activities are becoming rampant at some strategic residential blocks in Bor, in the recent weeks, following the suspension of the police patrol.
Last month, South Sudan Police Service in Jonglei initiated continuous patrolling activities in Bor town with the aim to combat and mitigate gang activities. Many members of different gang were apprehended by the police.
