Central Equatoria State Government has condemned the recent abduction of a Paramount Chief and two aid workers in Yei River County.
According to the report, the incident occurred on Monday July 7 this week while the victims were en-routing to a community dialogue program.
The State cabinet, on Thursday during Council of Ministers’ weekly meeting, chaired by governor, Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, condemned the act.
Acting Minister of Information and Communication, Hon. Jacob Aligo Lo-Lado said in press statement that the two aid workers were released after a ransom.
“The Paramount Chief of Yei, Mr. Joseph Brown, and two aid workers were abducted along the Yei–Tore Road while on a peace mission. The Council of Ministers condemns this criminal act and urges all armed groups to cease targeting civilians,”. Aligo said.
The statement further stated that the Paramount Chief was released on Thursday evening following appeals from both State and county authorities.
No group has claimed responsibility for incidents, though multiple armed, including the Sudan People’s Liberation Army-in-Opposition (SPLA-IO) and the National Salvation Front (NAS), factions operate in the area.
