Church donates food aid to vulnerable

By Hou Akot Hou

Anglican church has distributed food rations to 750 people, deemed more destitute to help, in Northern Bahr El Gazal state.

The exercise was conducted in three locations of Warkuac neighborhoods in Aweil Town, Akuem-kou, and Adoor, all in Aweil East County.

According to Pastor, John Nhompal, the three days distribution ends this week.

The items include 120 bags of wheat flour, 45 sacks of sorghum, 50 bags of lentils, and 12 jerrycans of oil.

In the distribution ratio, four individuals share a bag of sorghum plus additional bad of wheat flour and a cane of cooking oil for two.

Pastor Nhompal underscored the necessity to support the needy during such a challenging period, as hunger is seriously affecting the communities.

“The distribution is going to stop soon, perhaps on Friday, and we target those who are vulnerable, such as the elderly and those with disabilities, and this is aimed at supporting their families to enable them to survive, as hunger is too much this year in the country,” he stated.

Pastor Nhompal said they started the distribution in Aweil Town and carried on in the other two locations of Adoor and Akuem, noting that the church has a huge role to play in supporting the vulnerable communities.

Adut Deng, a beneficiary at Akuem, lauded the food aid she got from the Anglican church.

“I am equally glad, like the rest who have found their rations. I wish they could extend this support to more vulnerable people who can’t manage to do anything to make ends meet. It is great work that the church has done,” Ms. Deng appreciates.

The Anglican church has been playing a pivotal role in Northern Bahr El Gazal, as they have been constructing or building schools and health facilities for some of the communities where their denomination or churches are being established.
