Some residents of Hai Referendum and Gumbo-Shirikat have urged the government and well-wishers to intervene and solve continuous flooding of some homes in Juba City.
In an interview with No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper on Tuesday, Charles Nhial Bol, a resident of Hai Referendum, expressed that some areas continue to battle the impact of flooding with no immediate solution from the government.
He added whenever there are heavy rains, some of the residents lose property.
“Well, the rain was not bad, but although some fences collapsed due to windy rain that washed muddy houses yesterday,” Nhial said.
He appealed to the government and the well-wishers to intervene and bring a lasting solution to the flooding in some areas of the city.
Dominic Oyyom Papa, a resident of Gumbo Shirikat, expressed that more houses are destroyed by the flooding due to heavy rain.
He expressed that the Monday rain was heavy and destroyed many of the structures close to the Nile.
“But unfortunately, during the time when this rain started, it was really heavy,” Nhial said.
“The area is now full of water; flooding takes everywhere, and even some of the rooms collapsed down, including even my house. It was just water. The water is out of control. Until even the area was demolished,” Oyyom noted the condition.
Oyyom stated that it damaged the whole area where the flood has no control.
“The whole area is full of water; everything has now gotten damaged. We are just watching water flood without knowing what to do. We are waiting for water to sink if it can,” Oyyom emphasized.
He appealed to the humanitarian assistance to render help due to their suffering endured in their respective areas.
“So, we are just requesting any kind of help for those who are seeing the suffering of the humans. But there is no way again to overcome this. And the place is full of water,” Oyyom explained.
He urged the government to intervene and rescue the situation.
“My message here is directed to the government, to oversee the residents who are mostly affected by floods during rainy season. To those facilitators to facilitate the way of water, passing when raining,” he stressed.
“It’s strange, so that this water will not be fixed in one place when it comes to raining. I urge the government to look forward to the situation before the rain comes again,” he said,
