Police authorities in Jaak Payam, Koch County, Unity State, are detaining a soldier attached to South Sudan People’s Defense Forces (SSPDF) for shooting and wounding his wife.
Koch County police director Brigadier James Tut Wal told No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper on Tuesday evening that the SSPDF soldier was arrested on Monday afternoon at Tharjiath oilfield airstrip shortly after he had injured his wife.
He said they are carrying out an investigation to find out the reason why he (the soldier) shot his wife.
According to Tut the culprit was part of SSPDF soldiers, together with national security, who were deployed in 2015 during the South Sudan conflict at Jaak Payam in Tharjiath oilfield airstrip to protect SPOC company staff.
“The authorities in Koch County have taken action against the SSPDF soldier who committed a crime against his own wife,” he added.
The wounded woman is currently receiving some medical attention at Kosh County Hospital, but her condition is not reportedly improving, according to Dut.
“When investigations are completed, the soldier will be sent to SSPDF Division 4 headquarters in Rubkona County,” the police director noted.
However, the SSPDF Division administration has yet to comment on the case.
