Authorities in Mayom County, Unity State of South Sudan, have reported that a young man has been killed by his brother-in-law over refusal to pay dowry.
The suspect, who had a history of claiming dowry, was not arrested but is still being looked after by the government.
The incident occurred on Tuesday night. In September, the brother-in-law had opened a case against his sister’s husband, but the husband refused. On Tuesday, the brother-in-law decided to kill his brother-in-law.
Mayom County Commissioner John Bol Mayak stated that authorities are looking for the armed man who committed the crime.
The commissioner reported that a deceased individual, not identified, died while receiving medical attention at a Mayom health facility.
Commissioner Mayak questioned the baffling nature of the incident, stating that there were no known disputes before.
