As Sudan People’s Liberation Movement endorsed party chairperson, Salva Kiir Mayardit for the country’s top seat, United Democratic Salvation Front party (UDSF), has seconded the move.
UDSF pledged its support for Kiir as sole candidate in the upcoming 2024 December polls.
Salva Kiir Mayardit, who seeks to lead his party in the forthcoming race, is the current President of the Country, under a Unity government established by 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement.
In a letter addressed to President Kiir, Emmanuel Sokkiri Lugor, the chairman of UDSF, vowed that his party would back Kiir as the SPLM party flagbearer in the upcoming election.
“Your Excellency our president, on my own behalf and on behalf of our entire party in the country we support and endorse you as the only flagbearer and our future president of our beloved country,” said Lugor.
According to Lugor, President Kiir is a ‘liberator’ and a symbol of ‘unity’ among South Sudanese people.
“You are our hero, liberator and our elected president in the last elections and as a father of the nation, you are our symbol of the united people of South Sudan,” he noted.
“With the above reasons and many more, please may you accept our endorsement as a flagbearer in the upcoming general elections, as a matter of fact we believe nobody is capable of competing with your excellency,” the principal of UDSF continued.
With the elections expected to be held in December 2024, the SPLM has been active on the ground leaving nothing to chance.
Lately, The SPLM diehard drawn from the three states in the Equatoria region fulfilled their promise in a historic endorsement of President Kiir to be the flagbearer of the party.
One who attended this event at Juba’s Dr John Garang Mausoleum on May 25, 2024, might have seen a huge crowd dressed in red, shouting at the top of their voices to acknowledge the presence of their leaders.
Songs and dances from various entertainers from Central, Eastern and Western Equatoria states also kept the party members on their feet as they prepared to listen to the speech from the party chairman, President Kiir.
Last year, a similar event was carried out in July, where President Kiir was endorsed in Wau, Western Bahr El-Ghazal State, by the party members who hail from Northern Bahr El Ghazal, Western Bahr El Ghazal, Lakes, and Warrap States, and Abyei Special Administrative Area.
The same endorsement rally is currently being prepared by the SPLM members in the Upper Nile region, including Upper Nile, Jonglei, and Unity States; Ruweng Administrative Area; and Pibor Administrative Area.
