The Ministry of Animal Resources in Northern Bahr El Ghazal state has launched a vaccination campaign to protect domestic livestock, particularly cattle, goats, and sheep, against infectious diseases such as anthrax.
Angelo Ajiing Uguak, the State Director-General of the Ministry of Animal Resources, stated that vaccination teams have been dispatched to various counties to reach out to livestock owners and facilitate the vaccination process.
“We are sending out the teams to go and vaccinate the cows against infectious diseases such as anthrax among others. This is what we need the cattle owners to know and make their cows available for vaccination,” Uguak said.
The vaccination campaign comes in response to reported livestock deaths since the onset of the rainy season, which have been attributed to various infectious diseases.
To support the vaccination efforts, the ministry is partnering with organizations such as Vétérinaires Sans Frontières (VSF) and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, which are providing the necessary injectable vaccines.
Uguak emphasized that the vaccination program is not costly for livestock owners, urging the public to take advantage of this opportunity to protect their herds.
Anthrax is an acute and often fatal infectious bacterial disease that primarily affects herbivores, particularly sheep and cattle.
The disease can manifest in various forms, including skin lesions and lung infections.
