Lainya County authorities are requesting humanitarian support to aid the returning population who have voluntarily resettled.
Commissioner Emmanuel Khemis has reported an influx of returnees in dire need of water, health, and education services.
“I want to Appeal to the National and State Governments, Humanitarian and Development Partners to Support Rehabilitation of critical infrastructure and service Facilities across Lainya County,” Khemis noted.
He called for support to rehabilitate Lainya Civil Hospital, Lura, Roronyo, Wuji and Jamara Primary Health Care Centers all within the County.
Due to the 2013 and 2016 conflicts that have ravaged many public utilities, the commissioner also appealed for the revival and rehabilitation of the educational learning institutions that were destroyed such as; Mankaro, Lokurubang, Bereka, Logwili, Roronyo, Dimu 1, Yondoru, Wuji, Limuro, Kupera, among many other Primary Schools.
Khemis also reported a significant number of at least 30 destroyed boreholes across Lainya County that have to be restored for the people to access clean and safe water.
He further appealed for the rehabilitation of roads linking Lainya County and its neighbouring counties of Yei and Kajo-keji to ease the transportation of goods and services as well as the movement of people.
Lainya is one of the places affected by the 2013, and 2016 conflicts. However, with the signing of the 2018 Revitalized Agreement for Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCISS), relatively calm has returned to the area.
