A legislator representing Cueibet County, Lakes State in the Transitional National Legislative Assembly (TNLA), Juol Nhomngek Daniel has strongly condemned a violent attack that occurred early Saturday morning.

In a statement released to the press, Nhomngek expressed deep condolences to the families in Aburiu Payam who lost loved ones in the attack.

The incident, which took place on July 27, 2024, involved armed youths from Rumbek Centre, allegedly from the Rup section, targeting the Aliet Cattle Camp in Aburiu Payam with the intent of raiding and stealing cattle.

“I condemn these attacks in the strongest terms possible,” said Nhomngek. “It is crucial that the youth of Cueibet County refrain from seeking revenge and instead work towards peace.”

The attackers, who were reportedly repelled by local youths, entered deep into Aburiu Payam. In the ensuing confrontation, one youth was killed and several others were injured. As of the latest updates, tensions remain high, and the full extent of casualties is still unclear.

Nhomngek condemned the violence in the strongest terms, calling for peace and urging the youth of Cueibet County to avoid seeking revenge.

He emphasized the need for the Lakes State government to intervene promptly to restore order and address the underlying issues contributing to such violent acts.

“The government must address the gaps that allow such criminal activities to occur,” he stated. “We need peace to ensure progress in health, infrastructure, agriculture, and education.”

The lawmaker also called on the Lakes State government to review existing security measures and address any gaps that might be allowing criminal activities, such as cattle raiding, to persist.

He stressed the importance of maintaining peace to ensure development in health, infrastructure, agriculture, and education.

Nhomngek pledged to continue monitoring the situation and keep the public informed as developments occur.

He reaffirmed the commitment to peace and stability as essential for the county’s progress.
