Man kills cousin over land

By Hou Akot Hou

Police in Kuajok, Warrap state, have arrested a suspect accused of stabbing his cousin to death over a dispute about agricultural land.

According to Lt. Colonel Andrew Kuot, the head of the crimes section in Kuajok, the incident occurred when the two men got into a conflict over a piece of arable land in their local area. The suspect allegedly killed his cousin on the spot.

“Most of the people are ignorant of the importance of the rule of law,” said Lt. Col. Kuot. “Nobody can seek justice through violence and get away with it. This is unacceptable.”

The police official stated that the suspect is now in custody and will face justice through the proper legal channels, rather than resorting to deadly force.

He appealed to the public to resolve disputes peacefully and avoid unlawful actions that could lead to severe punishment.

Warrap state has been grappling with an increase in communal conflicts, cattle raids, and revenge killings in recent times. Authorities have tried to disarm civilians, but with limited success, as more guns continue to circulate among the population.

Lt. Col. Kuot emphasized the need for the public to follow proper legal procedures to address their grievances, rather than taking the law into their own hands through violence.
