The local authorities and traders have initiated a cleanup and restoration effort Dar-Salam market in Yei River County in Central Equatoria State.
This joint initiative also involves support from entrepreneurship business partners.
During the cleanup campaign, the Payam Director of Yei River County, Araba Na Fox, commended both the government officials and the traders whose goods, shops, and money were lost in a recent fire of unknown origin.
She praised the traders for turning up peacefully to clean up Dar el Salam market, which was reduced to ashes, leaving the traders in a state of dilemma and broken hearts.
The director has ordered the construction of new shops with fresh iron sheets, setting aside the burnt structures to revive the market and enable the traders to resume their business activities. This comes despite the other challenges they are facing.
Joice Dawa, a businesswoman who was selling at the Dar el Salam market and lost both money and goods during the fire outbreak, joined the cleanup campaign with other young men.
She expressed her determination to start selling at the Dar-Salam market again with the limited resources she has, and she urged well-wishers to support them with loans to help rebuild their businesses in Yei.
Kenyi Moses, one of the traders, expressed their appreciation for the government’s efforts in cleaning the market, allowing them to resume their business operations.
He urged all traders to return to the market without fear, as there is always a certain level of risk in any business endeavor.
Kenyi added that they are ready to start their businesses, but they need support from well-wishers in the form of loans and new iron sheets to rebuild their shops and regain their customer base.
