African Union (AU) has announced the deadlines and procedures for the upcoming elections to the senior leadership positions of the African Union Commission in 2025.
According to the announcement, the deadline for the submission of regional nominations for the 8 senior leadership positions is 6th August 2024. Only the names of candidates submitted by the respective regions will be considered in the pre-selection process undertaken by the Panel of Eminent Africans.
Furthermore, only Member States that are not under AU sanctions are allowed to submit candidates for the elections.
Interested candidates are required to submit their curriculum vitae and vision statements outlining how they intend to advance the transformative agenda of the African Union and address the existing and emerging challenges facing the continent to their respective member states.
The elections for the senior leadership positions of the AU Commission will take place in February 2025 during the African Union Summit.
All eight positions, including that of the Chairperson, the Deputy Chairperson, and 6 Commissioner Posts, are open for candidates’ submissions, guided by the regional allocation of the portfolios.
This announcement comes as the African Union prepares for a crucial transition in its leadership, with the elections poised to shape the future direction of the continental organization.
