The governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Simon Uber Mawut appointed former-governor’ foe – Samuel Garang Dut as the deputy commissioner for State Revenue Authority for admin and finance.
Mr. Garang, who is also an activist, had been at loggerheads with the ex-governor, Tong Akeen Ngor, which led to his detention after Ngor filed a defamation case, putting him behind bars for six months.
But luck seems to have knocked at his door as governor Uber appointed him at non-oil revenue collection institution – as he kisses goodbye to the darkest days of disagreement with his ex-governor.
Reacting to his appointment, Garang wholeheartedly accepted the assignment and lauded the governor for entrusting him with the job to actualize service delivery to the people in Aweil.
“Thanks to the governor of NBGs/ Aweil H.E Simon Ubeer Mawut for appointing me as deputy commissioner of SRA for admin & finance for Northern Bahr el Ghazal State/ Aweil,” he said.
“I accepted the appointment and promised to work together with my brother Hon. Ernest Mangok, the commissioner of the SRA and H.E governor Simon Ubeer in order to deliver the expected services,” he added.
He registered a vote of thanks to the people of Northern Bahr el Ghazal for their support and best wishes as congratulatory messages and tribute pour.
In 2021, Garang was dragged to court on defamation charges by Northern Bahr El Ghazal State Governor Tong Akeen Ngor.
This was after a post on his Facebook page accusing and criticizing the governor of constructing a private house in Juba using alleged stolen public funds.
He was found guilty in June 2021 by the high court in Aweil town and served an eight-month sentence, Garang was later on released after spending six months behind bars.
He was also ordered to pay SSP 2 million as compensation to the state governor in the defamation case.
