Government and partners sign commitment to accelerate implementation South Sudan Women’s Social and Economic Empowerment Project (SSWSEEP).
The Ministry of Gender, Child, and Social Welfare represented the government in the project which aims to empower mainly women and girls in the country.
According to the agreement, at least 48,000 beneficiaries will be able to participate in the community empowerment projects through this initiative.
The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Gender, UN Women, and other partners, including Amref, Norwegian People’s Aid, Care International, SPEDP, and Caritas Switzerland.
During the signing ceremony in Juba on Monday, the Minister of Gender, Child, and Social Welfare, Aya Benjamin Warille, commended the team’s hard work, despite facing obstacles, and acknowledged that the project’s implementation is currently behind schedule.
She urged the implementers to work together to ensure that the project reaches its full potential and benefits women and girls in the country.
“We don’t want the project to fail, so we will work together to successfully implement it,” said Hon. Aya.
Hodan Addou, the UN Women’s Regional Director, assured the ministry of their support for the project, emphasizing the rigorous partner selection process and their commitment to its success.
She pledged unwavering support and expressed confidence in the project’s ability to achieve its goals.
“Your faith in us will not go unnoticed; entrusting us, we shall continue to succeed as we collaborate,” she said.
Timothy Yobuta, the Project Manager of UN Women, highlighted the partnership’s focus on the community empowerment component, which aims to improve services for women, girls, entrepreneurs, and victims of gender-based violence, as well as enhance the government’s capacity.
