Authorities in Aweil East County, Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, have commenced renovations on the road connecting Aweil Town to the county.
This follows severe flooding that has disrupted access.
Commissioner Diing Aher Ngong reported that efforts are underway to repair the road, which has been submerged by flood waters.
“We have resolved to renovate the road despite our limited resources,” said Aher.
The road construction company, ARC, has agreed to assist, requesting fuel to carry out the repairs, he said.
Aher has called on local tax collectors to gather funds for this purpose.
The Aweil East road is crucial not only for local residents but also for those in Aweil North County, as their route to Aweil Town has been rendered impassable.
Aher has informed State Governor Simon Uber Mawut of his efforts to secure financial resources for the road repair.
In related news, Aweil North County Commissioner Kiir Chan Wol reported that flooding has caused five fatalities due to submerged roads and pathways.
He has instructed payam administrators to place red flags in flood-prone areas to warn residents and urged communities to seek higher ground to avoid further tragedies.
