On that day, some Peters will deny Jesus Christ

Do you know a man called Jesus Christ? Soldiers asked Peter, a prominent disciple of Jesus Christ who walked on water at the invitation of Jesus.

“I do not know him completely”, Peter replied. For the third time, he denied Jesus Christ, but he shortly recalled what Jesus had told him and broke down on his knees.

While dining with the 12 disciples, Jesus told Peter, “You will deny me three times before the cock crows”. Who? Me, I will never do such a thing, no matter what; a reply that did not satisfy Jesus as he knew Peter would deny him for sure. When Peter recalled Jesus’ prophecy of denial, he broke down and wept bitterly.

Peter was a favourite disciple of Jesus Christ. When Jesus walked on water to the other side of the river, the disciples became astonished and inquired from Him how He made it so. Jesus Christ then invited Peter to walk towards Him, which he did. Peter walked on water to the shore of the river where Jesus was standing. When Jesus fell into temptations which took His life, the disciples spread as if they were disseminating the word of God, but some of them disappeared for good.

Looking at President Salva Kiir Mayardit, you would count a hundred disciples who, with confidence, promise to stand with him in any situation. Frank disciples, such as Michael Makuei Lueth, have already made it clear that he would go home when Salva Kiir Mayardit steps down.

When these disciples are scattered all over South Sudan to preach the word of good governance, rule of law, transparency and accountability, quality education, good infrastructure and healthcare system, decisiveness, loyalty and patriotism, some of them act outside the mandate of Jesus Christ, I mean Salva Kiir Mayardit. Without orders from Jesus, one disciple cut off the High Priest’s slave’s right ear, but Jesus touched it and it healed.

Without Salva Kiir’s orders, some of his disciples cut people’s necks and loot people’s property, but Salva Kiir Mayardit never takes measures against such malpractices, thus making him differ greatly from Jesus Christ. One time, dumped disciples of Salva Kiir Mayardit made a treacherous decision and supplied rebels with money, food items and weapons; a secret revealed later by the prodigal disciple.

On the day when the scriptures get fulfilled in South Sudan, one of Salva Kiir’s disciples, Judas Iscariot, will betray him and the other disciples will deny him completely. Whether he knows the betrayer or not, that is what we shall all look forward to before the last supper. I’m afraid of the change that will happen in South Sudan. It will be so radical that some incumbent leaders will pay a heavy price for the suffering they have incurred on South Sudanese.

Some leaders will get crucified on the spot, others will get exiled while a majority will spend the rest of their lives in prison. The law would not remain as toothless as it is now. It will have its teeth fixed and the first people to bite are the leaders who have failed South Sudan. So, the disciples, after Jesus’ ascension to heaven, won’t scatter and spread the word of God. But they will, if they survive the crucifixion storm, scatter and spread the word of denial.
