Friends and families are extending their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved first family on the passing of their beloved, Mama Anok Mayardit Thiik – an elder sister to president Salva Kiir.
Granny Anok died on Thursday September 19, at age of 105. She was born in January 1919; however, little is known about the cause of her death.
The demise of late Anok was announced on Friday by the presidential press unit, a news that shattered all the emotions – with officials hurriedly rushing to J-1 to convey their heartfelt commiserations.
“In a solemn time for the nation, President Kiir has received outpouring condolences from officials and the public, following the passing of his elder sister, Anok Mayardit,” PPU announced.
It added,” Messages of sympathy flooded in from Vice Presidents, advisors, ministers, legislators, Generals, both expressing their heartfelt sorrow and support for the President during this difficult time.”
The five vice presidents, ministers and other government bigwigs rushed to State House, J-1 to convey their sincerest sympathies and comfort the head-of-state at this hard and trying time.
Gen Santino Deng Wol, the chief of defence forces expressed his deep shock and sorrow on the demise of Mama Anok.
General Deng Wol eulogized late Anok served as an ‘instrument of peace and love’ within Mayardit family.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragedy… she will not only be missed by her family but equally with the people of the Republic of South Sudan,” said CDF.
“Mama Anok has left behind a legacy that we should cherish and pass on to our children, teaching them to live lives filled with dignity togetherness and love,” he added.
Mr. Ateny Wek Ateny, the former press sectary in the office of president, conveyed his condolences, adding that he would soon find opportunity to convey his sympathies in person to his former boss.
“I am yet to find opportunity to convey my condolences in person, but I hope this message find this important family in good health,” he said
