The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation has issued a warning of heavy rainfall expected across the country over the next five days.
According to the weekly alert, various regions will experience varying levels of rainfall.
Western and Central Equatoria States, Jonglei States, parts of Pabior Administrative Areas, western Lakes State, Warrap, southern parts of Central Equatoria, and south-west of Eastern Equatoria State and eastern parts of Unity State are anticipated to receive heavy rainfall of above 40-60mm. The southern parts of Bahr el Ghazal are expected to receive a cumulative rainfall range of between 3-5mm.
Western areas of Maban and Pibor Administrative Areas bordering Ethiopia are forecasted to receive rainfall between 20-40mm, while the areas bordering Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo are expected to receive cumulative rainfall of between 125-150mm in the north and east north respectively.
However, the Ministry’s meteorological department predicts a decrease in rainfall in Western Equatoria, with cumulative rainfall expected to drop from 40-60mm to 20-60mm.
Northern and southern Ruweng Administrative Areas closer to the Sudan border and Upper Nile States will receive rainfall amounts of between 5-10mm.
The forecast further indicates that most parts of the country will remain dry, except for Upper Nile, north, and central Jonglei. Southern parts of Central Equatoria States are expected to receive about 3-5mm of rainfall tomorrow, while heavy rain of between 60-80mm is expected in Maban.
On Thursday, most areas across the country will experience drier conditions, except for Upper Nile, Jonglei, Central, and Eastern Equatoria States. Maban is expected to experience heavy rainfall of above 80mm.
The areas of Upper Nile, Unity, Warrap, some parts of Jonglei, and Abyei Administrative Areas are forecasted to receive above 3mm rainfall on Friday and are expected to remain wet over the week. The western part of Maban is said to experience heavy rainfall of between 60-80mm on Friday.
