President Kiir promotes Internal Spy Chief to general

President Salva Kiir Mayardit, the Commander-in-chief of defence forces has promoted the newly appointed Director General of Internal Security Bureau of National Security Services, Lieutenant General, Akech Tong Aleu to the rank of a General.  

Gen. Aleu’s promotion, announced over state Broadcaster, South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC), on Friday evening followed a recent one on Wednesday, prior to his appointment.

President Kiir on Wednesday evening relieved Gen. Aleu from being the undersecretary of Veterans Affairs in the ministry of defence and veterans Affairs.

He was subsequently appointed as Director General of Internal Security Bureau of the National Security services, while his predecessor Gen. Akol Koor Kuc has been appointed as Warrap state governor.

Meanwhile, former Warrap state governor, Kuol Muor Muor is re-assigned to the National Security Services.

Gen. Akech Tong Aleu received instruments of office on Thursday, a day before promotion to the rank.
