Ugandan Ambassador to South Sudan Brig-Gen. Ronnie Balya ‘ndc’ has emphasized the role of Pan-Africanism in fostering economic growth, advancing political interests on the global stage, and enhancing regional cooperation.
Speaking during the celebration of Uganda’s 62nd Independence Anniversary in Juba on Friday last week, Ambassador Balya stressed that embracing Pan-African ideals is essential for the future of the continent.
“Regarding Pan-Africanism – our strategic objectives are; first, economic integration to ensure property for instance in uniting our markets,” Balya said .
“Secondly, political integration to ensure strategic security, and have a strong voice to negotiate for favorable treaties with big powers in the world – like USA, China, EU and others,” he added.
Top Ugandan envoy emphasised that Pan Africanism would thwart secretive ‘Re-colonization’ plans.
He added that building regional blocs, like the East Africa Community (EAC) and the African Union (AU) is one of the progressions by which states can realize African political unification.
Gen Balya revealed the master plan of putting in place inter-connectivity, including cross-border projects such as roads, electricity, trade, tourism, telecommunication and job creation.
“Therefore, as African countries and African people, we should not entertain intra-state conflict or inter-state wars. We are one people,” he noted.
“Even the African national armies we are building are one; for defending Africa against potential Recolonization and extremist, terrorist ideologies like Jihadism, – by dismantling their networks and degrading their capacity to operate,” the envoy continued.
Ugandan ambassador to Juba further highlighted the challenges affecting the region such as conflicts, wars and organized crimes, but said with global support these threats are not insurmountable.
The 62 anniversary was organized by the Ugandan Embassy together with event manager, Andy Audio Equipment company and officiated by the national minister of environment as the guest of Honor.
Among the attendances were; the South Sudan government bigwigs, diplomatic corps, clergies and business communities to mention but a few,
Both Uganda and South Sudan are strategic neighbours, they enjoy partnership coupled with long unbreakable historical ties. Presently, the two sisterly nations are into cordial business.
According to data from the Bank of Uganda, during February 2022 Uganda’s exports to South Sudan hit a record high with a monthly average of $50.6m (Uganda Shilling 182b), which was an increase of more than 21 per cent from $39.7m (Shs142b) in January 2022.
The exports were more than what Uganda exported to Kenya during the period, which stood at $46.2m (Shs166.3b).
