South Sudan CHAN National Team on Sunday secured its first victory 2:0 against Kenya at Juba Stadium.
Ebon Malish Ezibon Wajo gave South Sudan the lead in the 50 minutes of the second half.
Seventeen minutes later, Yahanna Paulino Juma added the second goal of the day to give Bright Stars a slim advantage ahead of the return league in Nayoyo Stadium in Nairobi Kenya.
This is the visit-ever victory for the Bright Stars at home after the stadium was renovated in 2018/19 and officially launched this year.
Since Juba stadium was renovated, the Bright Stars played three competitive matches and lost to South Africa and Uganda in the AFCON qualifiers 2025 and lost to Sudan by 3:0 in the FIFA 2026 World Cup qualifiers on the official day of inaugurating the facility.
The victory marks the first win for the National Team under Coach Nicholas Dupuis since he was appointed.
Dupuis has managed a total of 11 games for the Bright Stars winning only once in all competitions, drawing against Sao Tome and Principe in the AFCON Preliminary Qualifiers when the first league ended 1:0 and the second league goalless, eventually South Sudan qualifying into the group stage.
The return league of CAF CHAN Zonal qualifiers between Kenya and South Sudan will be played on 03/11/2024 in Kenya. The winner from the league fixtures will qualify for the CAF CHAN Championship to be hosted by Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya early next year.
