Why I write about the human conditions [Part 5]

In this article, I am going to use some of the personalities; those who have made this world a better place to illustrate something.

And before that, there are approximately 7.5 billion humans on this planet. All of these people are looking for one thing, a solution to their problems. Yours is not that unique.

There are problems that are worse than yours and people, much, very much better than you. Just today, there is a man who will purchase his dream villa in Paris and that same day, there is another man who will go to bed hungry and even worse, have one of his toes chewed by stubborn rats with some making love on him while he slept.

You are just a tiny part of this global community, only visible to your friends, family and those that you have crossed paths with. Do not forget that people will move on and do better without you. It is a secret your pastor will never tell you. It is also wrong to think that people will never make it without you. Not true. Human beings, no matter how bad their situation is, can grow and change.

As a part of these billions, there is a struggle to fit in your place. And the chase to claim that spot comes with a price. First, you have to figure out what is lacking in your life. If it is God, you can go to church and sing hallelujah, asking every young woman to bring their tithes to church so that God blesses them with husband materials. For most people, it is money. Your biggest problem now is not the Kiir administration; it is where to get some money. You want to make your mama happy or your younger family.

If you have some cash, you can buy a house, build a school for your community or you can help your family. Pay some school fees for your younger brother or whatever that makes you happy, a sense of purpose.

It is everyone’s dream to have something that makes his life complete but it is not that easy to win this game. If you are not in any way related to the first family (ruling elites), all that you need to do is go to school and spend tons of hours, almost 18 years of your life learning hard stuff to get some skills that you can use to get a good job. Glory to God if you live long enough. Every journey has multiple stops and even fatal accidents. it is tough but it will never be your portion (God forbid) You will put on that gown.

The school comes with its discouragement because if you don’t work hard, your lecturer will give you F and you have to hug that F knowing it is not the end of the world. Life has many possibilities. I remember my first and last hug, I didn’t sleep that night because I was happy. Hug your failure and carry on. If you live long enough and are very focused, even the impossible becomes possible.

The world’s most famous man is Cristiano Ronaldo, a Portuguese soccer player. Ronaldo did not go to Harvard or Colombia to learn these skills. He just fell in love with football, and what followed is a mystery. You can call it luck or whatever. Life‘s events have a unique way of turning your life around, for better or worse.

Just like Ronaldo, Legendary Basketball player Dikembe Mutombo got an athletic scholarship to Georgetown University to study medicine but he abandoned his studies after three years, realizing that he could do more for his people with his paycheck as a basketballer than as a doctor in the Congo. Late Mutombo built a hospital in his home country with the money he made from his basketball career (Don’t abandon your program. You are not Dikembe)

Growing up, these two guys, like you, wanted something to do with their lives. At first, it was something to do with their families. They wanted to make something and rewrite the family’s story of lack. So when Ronaldo was training, he gave his very best knowing that it was his last card, the only way out. The same thing was Dikembe’s dream, to help his community.

Just like these guys, there is a stage in our lives where we want things to work out and it gets hard when it is not happening soon. The truth is, you are on this journey alone and the outside world should not put you under pressure. Find simple things that give you happiness and chase them. Not humans, get me right. Don’t run after people, you may hurt yourself in the process especially when they don’t need you. Go for skills, work, goals, or a good cause. The world is too big to feel like you don’t have a place in it. Just go!
