Aweil parliamentarians have formed a committee to investigate grievances of health workers who staged a strike last week.
Health practitioners laid down their tools due to what they said was delayed wages amounting to 21,000 USD dollars for all workers including the support staff such as cleaners in Aweil Civil Hospital.
Garang Kuol Mabior who heads the committee told this outlet on Monday that they have formed a committee of 7 members.
“We have formed 7 members who will go and meet the minister of health and talk with the health workers and the investigation will take about 7 days and will meet with all of the striking staff as well,” said Mabior
“The striking health workers laid down the tools last two weeks and their grievances will be heard from them during the investigation,” he noted.
Kuol disclosed that they summoned the state health minister to address the hospital’s staffing shortage.
Powever, the minister claimed a lack of budget and deflected responsibility, citing an agreement with partners to provide funding.
Kuol announced plans to introduce a motion during the upcoming parliamentary session to allocate funds for the hospital within the state budget.
Meanwhile, State MPs have threatened to remove Speaker Achol William Amoi, who is currently in Juba. They accuse her of neglecting state parliamentary affairs.
Efforts to contact the speaker have been unsuccessful.
