At least seven deaths due to cholera have been recorded in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State, according to the Ministry of Health.

Among the deceased is a two-year-old boy.

State Minister of Health, Jeffer Riny, confirmed that the recorded deaths occurred within a total of 2,455 cases.

“Shortage of vaccines is worrying, but as a ministry, we informed the national Ministry of Health to avail the cholera vaccines, “Minister Jeffer emphasised.

Earlier this month, National Minister of Health, Yolanda Awel Deng, launched a vaccination campaign targeting over 300,000 people against cholera in Unity State.

This brings the total number of counties included in the vaccination drive to four nationwide.

As of January 7, 2025, more than 17,581 cholera cases have been reported nationwide, with a case fatality rate of 1.5%.

With support from Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, over 1.3 million doses of vaccines have been secured to address the cholera outbreak in hotspots across the country.

The vaccination campaign in Juba commenced on January 8 and is scheduled to run for seven days.
