IGP considers tear gas to curb gang activities

By William Madouk

Inspector General of Police, General Abraham Manyuat, has announced plans to acquire tear gas for law enforcement agencies to combat the activities of criminal gangs, often referred to locally as “niggas.”

Speaking at a parade at the police department of Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT) on Monday, the IGP noted that police officers need to be equipped with modern tools, including electric batons and tear gas, to effectively address the growing threat posed by the gangs.

“The issue of niggas [gangs] is going to be your responsibility. Now, you have sticks and later on, we will bring you an electric stick and provide you with teargas,” said Manyuat.

“We already have the CID and professional standard, who knows where these criminals are staying? This is important because if we allow these niggas to dominate and scare the people that means you have failed,” he added.

Mr. Manyuat described the members of a notorious group called “Niggas” as ‘dangerous’ people – who even butcher their parents while trying to call them to order.

“What we know is that these niggas have frightened their fathers and mothers and if a father tried to advise he beat him. So, these are very dangerous people and we want to bring them back into order,” The police boss noted.

IGP noted that should any member of gang groups be arrested he would be trial and sentenced to jail.
“That is why every nigga that we would arrest, we will open cases against them, take them to court and to the prison,” he warned.

The Police boss urged young people to empower themselves with education and be God-fearing in order for them to contribute to the country building as good citizens rather than joining outlaw cliques.

His predecessor, Gen Atem Marol Bair embarked on a similar mission of eliminating gang groups.

In his 21-day plan, the IGP focused on eliminating the operations of criminal gangs such as ‘Toronto Boys’ and ‘Niggas’.

He rounded up so many of the gang members including people with dreadlocks which sparked sharp criticism from rights groups.

Gang groups commonly known as “Niggas”– is a syndicate cluster that terrorized and haunted residents, stealing and meting violence across the streets.

Notably, most people in Juba know the dreadful acts of the famous two gang sects in the city- Niggas and Toronto.
