South Sudan Business Community and Employer Federation has called on Vice President for Economic Cluster, Banjamin Bol Mel, to act on the president’s appeal for transforming agricultural sector.
South Sudan Business Community and Employer Federation president, Ayii Duang Ayii believes that Vice President Bol Mel is ideal person to lead the initiative.
“The business community supports President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s request to revolutionize the agriculture sector in order to strengthen the economy and reduce commodity prices,” he stated. “We believe that cultivating and distributing our products to markets will drive economic growth and lower prices.”
The business community has expressed its willingness to collaborate with the VP Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel and has suggested holding an urgent conference to discuss the next steps.
Ayii emphasized the need for financial support for farmers and the empowerment of local traders to reclaim markets that have been overtaken by foreign entities.
Julia Night Victor, Secretary General of the South Sudan Businesswomen’s Office, praised President Kiir for choosing Bol Mel and stressed the importance of empowering businesswomen to contribute to economic transformation.
“We are confident that Bol Mel will meet our expectations because we believe in his capability, given his prior experience with us in the business sector and his current role with the president,” she stated.
“As businesswomen, we face challenges regarding microfinance, and we appeal to him to reconsider this issue,” she added.
The business community has urged the vice president to prioritize the construction of roads and the removal of obstacles to facilitate smoother trade.
