South Sudan delegation led by South Sudan Football Association President Augustino Madout Parek has returned to Juba yesterday following their participation in the recently concluded CAF General Assembly in Cairo, Egypt.
During their time in Egypt, the delegation took part in CAF’s general election, where incumbent President Dr. Patrice Motsepe was re-elected unopposed. Dr. Motsepe will now serve another four-year term.
Upon arrival in Juba International Airport, South Sudan Football Association (SSFA) General Secretary Victor Lawrence Lual highlighted the historical significance of Dr. Motsepe’s re-election, noting that the SSFA was the first CAF member to endorse his candidacy for a second term.
The General Secretary also confirmed the election of Wallace Kaira to the CAF Executive Committee during the assembly.
Prior to the election, Kaira served as President of the Tanzania Football Federation and headed the Council of East and Central African Football Associations (CECAFA), with SSFA President Augustino Madout Parek as his deputy.
Lawrence stated that with Kaira’s election to the CAF Ex-Co, SSFA President Augustino Madout Parek will assume the role of Acting CECAFA President, leading the association until a formal inauguration at the CECAFA General Assembly later this month.
“CECAFA will hold an extraordinary general assembly at the end of this month to officially inaugurate Madout as the new CECAFA President,” according to a statement on the SSFA’s social media page.
On January 22nd, delegates from the 12 CECAFA member countries declared their support for Souleiman Hassan Waberi for the FIFA Council election and pledged to support Kaira’s bid for the CAF Executive Committee after the Federation of Uganda Football Associations President, Eng. Moses Magogo withdrew from the race.
Both Waberi and Kaira were elected to the CAF Executive Committee, alongside Dr. Motsepe.
