Ezra Construction and Development Group (ECDG) has officially announced a 13% interim discount on the Thermal Energy Tariff, effective immediately.
This move aims to make electricity more affordable and demonstrates the company’s commitment to serving its target audience.
Samson Tekie Ezra, the Managing Director of ECDG, stated that this change is intended to benefit low-income individuals who struggle with the cost of electricity.
“We are committed to providing reliable electricity and ensuring accessible and affordable energy for all sectors of South Sudan,” Mr. Ezra noted. “As part of our efforts to integrate cost-effective energy sources into the national grid, we implemented our Multiple Independent Power Producer (IPP) framework in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Dams (MED) and other key stakeholders. However, achieving the full benefits of this framework depends on the timely commissioning of the NESITU Power Plant, which is crucial for fulfilling the government’s promise of affordable energy. This interim discount will help ensure the objectives of the Multiple IPP framework remain on track.”
Emmanuel Lexson, a JEDCO power user, shared his positive feedback on this development with the Number One Citizen Daily Newspaper, stating that he can now afford electricity more easily compared to before the discount.
“Electricity used to be expensive, and the units would deplete quickly, but now it is much more affordable,” Mr. Lexson said.
The key features of the interim discount include: A 13% discount applied exclusively to the Energy Tariff, providing immediate relief to end users.
The discount will remain in effect from April until the Nesitu Power Plant is commissioned and connected to the grid.
Mr. Ezra also expressed his gratitude for the partnership and cooperation of the Ministry of Energy and Dams, emphasizing their joint efforts to shape the energy and business landscape of South Sudan.
He affirmed, “At ECDG, we consider ourselves part of the solution and are dedicated to continuing our efforts to transform the South Sudanese energy and business landscape. Together with our partners, we are taking meaningful steps to improve energy access across South Sudan and ultimately build a more prosperous future for all.”
This new discount follows a previous 20% reduction in 2020 for Domestic and Government tariff categories, which provided significant relief during the Covid-19 pandemic.
It will directly benefit all customers, ensuring that energy remains accessible for both public and commercial sectors.
ECDG said it will continue to collaborate with the Ministry of Energy and Dams and other stakeholders to monitor the progress of South Sudan’s energy sector and implement long-term sustainable solutions.
