A letter to the Editor

By Hon Deng Nyiwel Dhieu

Dear Editor,

I would like to address social media users and political sycophants.

My fellow South Sudanese, when our father’s fought for this country, it was not an easy decision but life and death matter in which it took a precious life of our iconic leaders in order for us to gain what we call today the republic of South Sudan. She came with a lot of effort from our brothers, sisters, fathers.

I’m saying this not to all social media users and South Sudanese in general but I’m referring it to the few.

Whenever I wake up everything morning and check my Facebook page, I get a lot of fake news circulating online. Now I’m blaming the social media users because of Nasir incident. It was not political but through social media, it turned to be too political.

Also, there are many good things done by the government which the media has failed to report them but rather, they only concentrate on negative things.

Worse still, there are politicians lobbying for positions who are fueling the situation because they believe that in war they will get positions. Instead of them lobbying in the right way, they backbite others with words that can course war, which is not good.

Other important things which cause problems, is praising of leaders.

First of all, President Salva Kiir Mayardit, his First Vice President, Dr. Riek Machar Teny and other leaders are sons and daughters of South Sudan. They are our elders in which if there are political differences, we should remain silent or urge them to work together for the better South Sudan but now the members of SPLM-IO who are supporters of Dr. Riek Machar, blame President Kiir, while supporters of President Kiir are doing the same. They forget that both are supporting what will take the lives of the people.

A lot of Facebook users need to be guided by the law because South Sudan has lost interiority and sovereignty, internationally because of what we post in our different platforms.

I urge all of us to refrain from all this mess and advocate for peace and prosperity in our country.
Let us respect our leaders.
