President Salva Kiir has applauded Unity State Governor Riek Bim Top for maintaining peace and stability in the region.
According to a statement from the Office of the President, Governor Bim briefed President Kiir on Wednesday regarding the situation in Unity State.
Following the briefing, President Kiir expressed appreciation for the governor’s efforts in fostering peace and unity among the communities.
“President Kiir commended Governor Bim for his dedication to maintaining peace and stability,” the statement read in part.
The head of state directed the governor to continue promoting unity and stability, emphasizing that the citizens of Unity State must be empowered to cooperate with one another.
Kiir stated that the presence of peace in Unity State would enable the government and its partners to implement developmental programs.
The meeting underscored the need for concerted efforts to solidify peace and uphold sustainable stability and unity in the country.
In response, Governor Bim thanked the president for his continuous support and vowed to continue maintaining peace and unity in the area.
He reported that the security situation remains calm and stable, despite some isolated incidents that are being managed by the authorities.
Governor Bim expressed that the state government is striving for peace, stability, and harmony, particularly regarding public order and uniting the population.
Last month, he reiterated his call for Christians to prioritize peace as a foundation for sustainable development.
Speaking during the Christmas service at St. Martin Deporest, Diocese of Bentiu, Bim underscored the significance of unity and harmony in fostering progress for the entire community.
“The governor highlighted the importance of Christmas for Christians, as it is a day of repentance, confession, and, above all, a renewal of our union with God,” he said.
Bim reminded the faithful that peace is essential for long-term prosperity and that only through unity can the state overcome its challenges and move toward a brighter future.
He urged Christians to embrace dialogue as a means of resolving conflicts, fostering mutual understanding and respect among different groups within the state.
The governor told the congregation that, despite the challenges, they could rebuild Bentiu and the wider Unity State through collective effort and a shared commitment to peace and prosperity.
Addressing past challenges, the leader specifically appealed to locals residing in Protection of Civilians (POC) sites, urging them to return and participate in the reconstruction of their communities.
