President Salva Kiir Mayardit has terminated the appointment of Chief Justice Chan Reech Madut. In his place, Justice Dr. Benjamin Bak Deng has been appointed as the new Chief Justice.

In a Decree read over the state media-SSBC, Deputy Justice John Gatwech Lul has also been relieved of his duties, with Justice Laku Tranquillo Tombe stepping in as his successor.

Chan Reech Madut had held the position of Chief Justice for an extended period, making him one of the longest-serving figures in that role since South Sudan’s independence.

His tenure began shortly after the country achieved sovereignty.
