President Salva Kiir Mayardit has placed Warrap state and Mayom County in Unity state, under six months’ state of emergency.
Announced over state owned media, South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) on Thursday evening, President Kiir cited deteriorating insecurity situation in the affected areas, as reason for the declaration of state of emergency.
There were reports of deadly clashes between armed youth in Tonj East County, Warrap State last week which claims many lives including 20 women.
Declaration of state of emergency on Warrap state fell soon after swearing in of a new governor.
Bol Wek Agoth, took oath on Thursday after his appointment to replace the former governor, Magok Magok, had been serving the country as a diplomat and in the security sector.
He pledged to prioritize peacebuilding, law enforcement and restore good governance
