Commissioner of Bor County in Jonglei state has suspended the director of Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) for refusing to relocate to the new headquarters.
Last week, Jonglei State Governor Riek Gai Kok ordered the immediate relocation of Bor County Headquarters from Bor Town to Baidit payam
However, some of the officials from Bor County in Jonglei government rejected the order, citing that the new headquarters is far and lacks structures.
The commissioner, however, relocated and urged everyone to set up office even the tree in the new headquarters.
According to the statement extended to the media, the RRC director, Ayuen Kuer Riak was suspended for a week, during which he will be investigated.
The suspension was announced by the County Commissioner, Ghai Mahkor Leek, on Thursday.
The commissioner revealed that the RRC official will face investigation after the suspension period elapses.
In the order, Commissioner Makhor stated that the director was suspended for rejecting the relocation of the county headquarters to Baidit.
He blamed Ayuen for refusing to be part of the assessment team for the comprehensive report to humanitarian agencies for possible assistance.
Commissioner Mahkor further stated that the RRC director also refused to acknowledge him as his immediate supervisor, leading to his suspension.
He also accused the RRC director of not sharing information about the assets donated to the county by the Catholic Relief Service. (CRS)
The suspension took effect on 5th June and will end on 12th June 2025.
In a separate order, Commissioner Mahkor approved the creation of two administrative units Ayen Dongduor and Gameth, under Baidit payam.
Recently, the Governor of Jonglei State, Dr Riek Gai Kok, ordered for immediate relocation of Bor County headquarters outside the state capital, Bor town.
According to the order, Governor Kok said the headquarters will be relocated to Baidit, a locality about 24 kilometres north of the town.
Kok said the move is aimed at fulfilling the ‘Moving towns to the people” policy, a long-standing government slogan of improving access to services and resources in rural areas.
Bor town doubles as the headquarters of the state and Bor County. Kok, in the order, said the implementation took effect immediately.
Baidit town is also the headquarters of Baidit Payam, which is one of the Payams of Bor County.
Bor County, like most parts of the Upper Nile region, is flat and sits 320 metres above sea level. It is about 12,000 km2 in size.
