A high-level delegation from South Sudan is participating in the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) in Russia, held from June 18 to 21, 2025.

The delegation aims to leverage the global platform to promote partnerships, attract investment, and gain insights into international best practices in digital transformation.

Leading the delegation is Thomas Gatkuoth, the Undersecretary of Telecom in the Ministry of ICT and Postal Services.

He is joined by several key government figures, including Gieth Kon Mathiang, Director General of the National Communication Authority (NCA); Elijah Alier, Managing Director of the Media Authority; and Mabe Emmanuel, Secretary-General of the Universal Service and Access Fund (USAF).

SPIEF is widely recognized as one of the premier global forums for addressing pressing economic challenges faced by Russia, emerging markets, and the international community.

With a focus on innovation, investment, and adaptation to the evolving global economy, the forum offers participants a chance to engage with government officials, business leaders, and development partners on large-scale projects and policy frameworks.

For South Sudan, the event comes at a crucial time as the government intensifies efforts to build foundational ICT infrastructure, promote digital inclusion, and implement comprehensive e-government services.

Speaking from St. Petersburg, DG Gieth Kon Mathiang underscored the importance of the forum: “SPIEF provides a timely opportunity for South Sudan to position itself as an emerging digital economy. We are here to explore strategic partnerships that can help fast-track our ICT development goals, particularly in expanding connectivity and fostering innovation.”

The South Sudan delegation is expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings with global technology firms, development partners, and regulatory institutions to discuss areas of cooperation, investment, and knowledge exchange.

Their participation reflects South Sudan’s growing commitment to using technology as a driver for inclusive growth, improved governance, and national development.
