The legend of Unity

By Gabriel Patrick Lagu

‎Maybe we are still badly distorted with the illusion of freedom or still Arabised, who knows? The selfish ones could be hindering the real life of a free South Sudan….. Whatsoever!

‎Real Nationalism lies in the depths of the hearts which belongs to those who spilled their blood as a price of attaining freedom.

‎Maybe to some extent, we have lost unity among ourselves just like the babel tower builders, who couldn’t stick together with their differences to a achieve a common goal.

‎This is a biblical story which dates several centuries back to the Genesis of the world. It happened when man was still speaking the Adamic language, the real language of Adam, first ever language when mankind came to settle together.
‎Then, an idea flashed into them of building a large tower worth reaching the heavens. Their goal was clear, perfectly structured to the aimed target.

However, when they reached with the project to a reasonable height off the ground, God as the sole creator, had to step from Heaven and disorganized the language of man, gaining the name Babylon, a famous city in the antiquities.

Babylon crumpled into ruins in the present-day Iraq.

‎The fact that God separated the language of man, is a critical thing to think of. The architectures had unity in one language which made it possible for them to build the tower to a reasonable height, however, each of them had selfish human greed to conquer and rule in competition with God their creator.

The effect of their unity being a physical one can’t hold on when their languages were separated, resulting into all parting ways.

Unity in a single language in the story, is a fundamental aspect of success beyond physical togetherness of the builders. There should be one strong metaphysical unity of the soul bonded together with love. It is this unity which makes us to stand in whatever differences even if our languages are all scattered but we can still move forward towards the common aim.
‎Physical unity has a power which shouldn’t be underestimated. This is the same unity which made the tower cross the stratosphere, this is the same unity which God had to tame for its physicality.

Well, if this unity survived from those days till now, then humanity would have flown away from earth and modern technology would be an ancient teddy bear. Men would have succeeded in the teleportation technology, even time travel wouldn’t be a myth but a practical tech.

There is really a huge power in “Unity”. ‎Unity is an element which can bind bodies, souls and spirits depending on it’s limits beyond physical occurrence. It is not just merely staying together, it is a tool of mutual strength, an instrument of fortitude. It’s a physical castle and a spiritual fortress.

Union keeps couples together to celebrate their old ages. It’s unity which keeps them, then love binds it up as a supplement.

‎The secret of all historical empires’ rise, is attributed to unity. Look at the great Roman empire, the Aztec civilization and the great Egyptian empire, all rose with a simple yet strong element and that is “unity” and yet they all fell like Babylon due to inner divisions, nothing else.

If that wasn’t the case, the last Pharoah couldn’t have been buried long back in 30 BC. There would still be a strong Egyptian empire today, boasting the dynasties of the Pharaohs.

‎Practically, the present-day USA, the so called “Super Power” is defined by the strong unity of her allies. USA is not a threat without the alliance of Africans, Europeans, Asians and Middle East, nations.

‎This same unity as seen and experienced all over the world, made it possible for South Sudan to become a nation. It’s through this very unity that South Sudan’s sovereign flag was raised after a long period of persevering brutality during the course of 21 years’ journey of crossing to absolute freedom.

‎A huge respect to the veteran leaders of the first and second legendary rebellions of the Anya-nya; Hon. Joseph Lagu, Julius Moroga, Samuel Gai Tut, Abdallah Chol, Aggrey Jaden, Severino Fuli, Gordon Mourtat Mayen and the primal heroic liberation movement led by Dr. John Garang De Mabior with the support of the current president, Saliva Kiir Mayardit and others.

Some of the liberators are gifted to see the light of the 14th anniversary of the youngest country in the world, they worked hard to gain.

‎However, this unity is lost to human greed of corruption, nepotism and tribalism which took over and ruled the systems.

It’s of no sense when most offices and organisations are operated by a family and some familial tied members. This has provoked the sweat and blood lost to gain freedom, to end up in political, social and economic injustices.

Till this day, the core reasons of separation, is not met. Hospitals are of no quality, education is more or less just like being an illiterate, fluctuations in the markets are daily, poverty still remains an issue in the country.

It’s wise to revise the real goals of putting a star flag up for the greater good of the next generation. There lies a great need to re-establish and re-discover the unity which conquered the hearts of the freedom fighters.

Unity which created not a merely physical bond but a metaphysical knit, one which defies physicality and greed to focus on the common good of everyone. Bonding in love, forgetting the differences of a brother but bringing to the table the same differences to spice up the produce, that’s the unity, the future generations ought to be taught and practice to gain tremendous development.

‎The freedom fighters have taught the world a lesson to grasp, “unity” is the goal to conquer a divided empire, disunity is a stumbling block of a thousand experienced divided armies, facing ten junior soldiers.

‎As an African adage says “A hero will be kept and always remembered in the hearts of the people but a bad leader will be forgotten and deleted from history with all his lineage.”

‎Happy 14th Independence Day!

‎Stay blessed.
