Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) Women’s League has reaffirmed support to orphans as well as young people.

The women’s league pledge followed a visit and celebration of the country’s fourteenth Independence Day Anniversary with Orphans at Stone Orphanage Center in Juba, on Wednesday.

“Don’t feel lonely; we are your mothers.” Abuk Jervas Makuac, National Chairperson of SPLM Women’s League, who led the team to the orphanage, noted in a statement.

According to Abuk, the celebration was not only a commemoration of the hard-won freedom but also a heartfelt gathering aimed at uplifting and empowering the beloved orphans.

She also noted that the visit included various activities, along with the distribution of essential supplies, designed to engage and uplift the children.

Abuk further highlighted that the visit served as a poignant reminder of collective responsibility as a country to ensure every child feels supported and empowered to contribute to the nation’s future.

She reassured the children by saying ‘don’t feel lonely, we are your mothers’, affirming the SPLM Women’s League’s commitment to being a source of support for young people.

In South Sudan, children are in urgent need of protection, many of them have lost parental care due to the long-standing conflict, many of them unaccompanied, separated and others missing.

The legacy of war in South Sudan is particularly reflected in the lives of its most vulnerable victims including women, children, and the elderly.

In 2018, the UN Children Fund (UNICEF) revealed that about 15,000 children in South Sudan were separated from their families or missing due to conflict.
