The Conscious and Subconscious mind as Captain

By Nyariay Kic

On most occasions, ninety percent of a team’s win is dedicated to the team leader. Yes, I agree every member solely passionately exercises their role.

However, you could be a good driver but without a road map of the new site, you could lose direction. Relatively, a team leader or captain is like a road map that his team uses to achieve success. His colleagues obey him and follow his measures for a unified set up to success. Imagine team members arguing in the field or one rebelling against the rules, it would be chaos, right? Consequently, obeying the captain and following his rules is fundamental for a positive achievement. Similarly, our mind is the captain, the team leader! The road map to the life we live. The life you live is simply a reflection of your subconscious and consciousness. The thoughts, aspirations, beliefs, hypotheses and stereotypes you choose to carry on your mind are portrayed in your actions.

If a team leader could be praised for a win, I believe it’s also fair enough to hold him responsible for a loss too. What methods of his might have led to the team’s failure. A committed team leader would sit to examine what actually went wrong, the mistakes that caused the failure to avoid a repeat. And so is the mind too! The mind could lead you to either failure or success, sickness or health, laughter or sadness, pride or shame, joy or sorrow, wealth or poverty etcetera. Drunkard personnel will commit the unexpected in the night, and in the morning rise up with total concern. Sit and rethink the chaos they caused. If they acknowledge their mistake, they will try transforming their ways. However, how would they do so? Speak to their mind, the captain.

Our mind is associated with whatever sort of perceptiveness, feelings, emotions, willingness, remembrance, and imagination we hold onto: what a powerful weapon it is! Now the kind of data our mind processes regarding the above-mentioned associations is an output to the kind of data we input. Simply meaning that what we feed our minds with is what we digest. Science teaches us that computers are programmed to, “garbage in garbage out.” The Bible as well states that, “you reap what you saw.” This is an assurance that we can literally be responsible for whatever happens to us. Why then must we not program our minds to what we hope to see in our lives, the things our hearts yearn for. This is where the conscious mind comes in. Psychology reveals that, while ninety five percent of the brain is subconscious, five percent remains conscious. To break it down, this five percent is associated with one’s creativity, what we refer to in modern day today as “aspirations or dreams.” If you have ever thought of how, you would want your future to look like, then that is the conscious mind in operation. The fact that the conscious mind occupies only five percent of the mind should reveal to us how seriously we need to be conscious, otherwise our lives would be without purpose. In other words, we wouldn’t be self driven individuals.

In our societies, we are familiar with the saying,” like father, like son or perhaps like mother, like daughter.” Have you ever wondered why this saying somehow happens to be true in most cases? It is not a genetic issue, not at all! Rather, this is where our subconsciousness is framed out from. How does a newborn know that water is actually referred to as water in their native dialect, crazy right? When born, we simply spend our first seven years, probably according to science, learning from those around us. Likely those happen to be our parents or guardians. In this, they pass unto us their characteristics, simply behaviours and beliefs. And these characteristics get to be passed on through the family lineage in most cases.

That is why today, we have families in which all its graduates are Doctors or simply scientists. This points to the crucial role our parents and guardians play in our lives. So as adults, you should simply know what legacy you are building. Its never too late for a parent to renew the school drop-outs mind to get back to school. Its never too late for a parent to also renew their mind and find a purpose in the disobedient child.

In a world like today, where everyone desires to be progressive in whatever desires they hold on to, what kind of mindset do we need? Taking a note that what goes round comes around, should it be the mindset of giving up after several attempts? Of course not! We need to hold onto the kind of rare mindset: knowing that failure is just a prerequisite to success. If the mind could be the cause of a failure, then the same mind could also be the cause of an achievement.

Renewing the mind is crucial for change, whether you’re a leader or a subject, a student or teacher, child or parent, young or elderly. It is high time we perceive the thoughts of possibilities to achieve progress in whatever we endeavour on in our personal lives, families, societies, and nation at large. All for the profound progress we all hope to see!!
