The Governor of Warrap State, Amb. Bol Wek Agoth, has urged the Mabior Yar community in Tonj to cease the hostilities.
According to the statement on Thursday, Governor Wek appealed to the Mabior Yar community to cease violence, citing that peace is in progress.
The governor urged all the communities to accept peace and comply with the state of emergency declared by the president.
The statement further stated that Governor Wek happened to visit the Mabior Yar Community on a peace and security mission.
“With the force of a state of emergency, we will manage to collect guns, but peace is voluntary. That is why my aim is to disarm civilians and achieve comprehensive reconciliation,” Governor Wek’s statement partly read.
According to the statement, Machar Majok, Mabior Yar youth leader, along with community chiefs, welcomed the disarmament and the establishment of competent courts.
It stated that the community had been yearning for peace to present grievances that lead to conflict for trial.
The youth leader urged the youth to surrender guns and pleaded with the state government to build rule-of-law infrastructures such as police stations in the community.
The governor assured the Yar community of the government’s readiness to guarantee the safety of civilian lives and their properties after disarmament.
The statement said Governor Wek donated food items to the Yar community, while the former Director of the Custom Division, Akol Ayii Madut, pledged to support an existing healthcare facility with beds and mattresses to alleviate the suffering of patients, especially women and children, in the community.
Earlier this year, President Salva Kiir Mayardit ordered a state of emergency that escalated conflict in the country.
