At least 3,970 people have been displaced by the recent conflict between armed youth in Mayiandit and Leer County.

The Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) Director in Leer County Paulino Kush Mawich said the displaced people arrived in Leer town on Wednesday.

Paulino said the new arrivals need assistance from humanitarian organizations and state governments.

“We need their response to the displaced persons” he added.

“We have meetings with international humanitarians such as ICRC and other international organizations and they’re going to respond very soon to the displaced persons in Leer town,” he said.

He said the situation is very difficult to manage now. One of the displaced people, Nyariak Kueth said, “I came from Tutnyang payam in Mayiandit County, we want our lives to be safe that is why we came here, maybe the Commissioner of Leer County will protect our lives”.
