MPs rule out Governor Futuyo’s security report

Members of the Council of States have ruled out a report by the governor of Western Equatoria State, Alfred Futuyo Karaba on the insecurity in the state.

According to the lawmakers, the report accuses the SPLM party of involvement in the conflict in Tombura County.

Yesterday, the governor of Western Equatoria State, Alfred Futuyo Karaba appeared with other governors and security ministers before the Council pf States to answer questions regarding the security situation in their respective states.

The summon was to understand the root causes of the insecurity in the areas of Tombura, Abyei and the other parts of the country.

Tombura County’s conflict erupted in June last year displacing over 80,000 people leaving others dead in Western Equatoria State.

Among the members summoned to the council of state includes the governor of Warrap State, Chief administrative officer of Abyei, Western Equatoria State Governor, Minister of National Security, Defense and Interior minister.

Earlier last month Alfred Futuyo Karaba was summoned to appear before the Council of States to answer questions regarding the ongoing conflict in Tombura of Western Equatoria state.

According to the report read by the Western Equatoria State Minister of Finance and Planning William Baiki on behalf of the State Governor, the violent confrontation started after four youth were arrested by the youth loyal to the paramount Chief Mboribamu Baabe Rentzi and brought to his palace where they were said to have been killed.

The report said one victim escaped and reported himself to the police but was later picked and killed.

According to then report, an SPLM party car under the order of the SPLM Secretary General Abdallah Juma Baziangungu snatched the victim from the police premises and took him, he was later killed in presence of her people.

“The root causes of Tombura County conflict was purely about the establishment of the Azande Kingdom in the greater Tombura and the land disputes between the Balanda and Azande,” the report read.

The report further accuses James Nando for standing behind the conflict in Tombura County.

After the report was presented, the Members of the Council of State demanded for the suspension of the report until the deputy governor for Western Equatoria State attends the sitting.

“The reports presented by the governor of Western Equatoria State is suspended until the deputy governor witness the report as it is accusing the SPLM party for standing behind the conflict in Tombura County,” the speaker Deng Deng Akon announced.
