GPOC directed to construct new IDPs camp

By Yien Gattuor Mead

The deputy governor of Unity state Tor Tonguar Kueyguong visited Unity oilfield to see the Internally Displaced Persons [IDPs] Camp. The camp has been displaced by the flooding that affected Unity state’s headquarters and Nhialdiu payam in Rubkona County last year 2021.

In a meeting between the deputy governor Tor and GPOC officials, they agreed to construct a new area to save lives; the IDPs will be relocated from the Unity oilfield to a new site called Roria.

Mr. Tor said they were bringing people from Unity oilfield to Roria because of oil pollution.

“The pollution is affecting our people; cows and also their goats, their animals often die day and night,” adding that GPOC Company is committed to supporting the IDPs Camp.

Mr. Tor said it is good for the three counties of Mayom, Rubkona and Guit to be safe and live peacefully with the neighboring people, starting from Sudan and Ruweng Administrative Area; saying “they are our brothers and sisters”.
