The Chairperson of the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission (RJMEC) is calling on the peace parties to find amicable solutions to the upsurge of the recent violence that has been reported in some cantonment sites and the SPLA-IO positions across the country.

This was revealed after a team from the Reconstituted Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission led by Gen. Charles Tai Gituai the commission’s Chairperson and Lt. Gen. Asarat Denero Amad on Tuesday met with the First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan Dr. Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon to discuss the recent violence in the country.

Earlier this week, the members of the opposition group SPLM-IO boycotted a meeting organized by the ceasefire monitoring body CTSAMVM in a protest of alleged attacks on their forces by the SSPDF in various parts of the country.

The SPLA-IO said its members in the Security Mechanisms have been presenting violations of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement (COHA) made by their peace partners (IG, NSS, SSPDF) in various CTSAMVM and RJMEC (Fora), plenary meetings since the beginning of the implementation of the Transitional Security Arrangements.

The SPLA-IO said they believe the RJMEC is mandated by the Agreement (R-ARCSS) to address the violations of continuous unprovoked attacks on the SPLA-IO, areas, cantonment sites and the Unified Training Centres.

In a similar case, the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement and Army in Opposition, (SPLM/A-IO) tendered a letter to the Chairperson of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, (RJMEC) suspending their participation in the meetings of the ceasefire monitoring body, CTSAMVM including the RJMEC.

In the statement seen by No.1 Citizen Daily Newspaper from the official page of the Office of the First Vice President of the Republic of South Sudan Dr. Riek Machar Teny Dhurgon after the meeting Gituai recommended the peace parties to find amicable solutions to the recent upsurge of violence that has been reported in some cantonment areas and the SPLA-IO positions across the country.

“The meeting discussed progress on the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement specifically on the chapter two of the peace agreement. They also discussed the role of Ceasefire Transitional Security Arrangement and Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM) and the need to support its efforts in the implementation of the agreement,” he explained.

For his part the minister from the Ministry of Mining Martin Gama Abucha described the recent aggression attacks as unfortunate as parties are working on the full implementation of the peace agreement.
