Security personnel arrest notorious highway gangs

The Security forces on Tuesday arrested 10 members of the notorious highway gangs that have been terrorizing travelers along Kapoeta South County of Eastern Equatoria state in South Sudan.

Speaking to No.1 Citizen Daily Newspaper, Minister of Information and Communication in Eastern Equatoria state Patrick Oting Cyprian confirmed that at least 10 criminals have been arrested for terrorizing people along Torit, Kapoeta and Narus road.

He said that there has been upsurge of robbery, looting and killing along the highway especially Camp 15, Kapoeta and Narus.

“The operation security forces have arrested 10 criminals and confiscated a number of firearms, laptops, mobile phones and clothes from the gang,” he said.

Oting stated that the group has been responsible for all the ambushes, looting and the killing along the roads.

He mentioned that the operation was to secure the highway and get rid of the state of criminality.

“The criminals will then be arraigned in court to determine and investigate the so called criminals,” he added,

Humanitarian organisations operating in the area have suffered in the hands of the criminals who have always looted their properties along the road.

Earlier last year, at least two humanitarian aid workers have lost their lives along Torit Kapoeta road due to the upsurge of the so called criminals terrorizing, robbing, looting and killing people along Torit -Kapoeta roads.
