18 soldiers including Major General killed in Mirmir cantonment

At least 18 soldiers including a Major General were killed in Mirmir cantonment area on Wednesday 6th April 2022. The attack allegedly came after arrival of sector two commander LT Gen. Ruot Chuol.

An eyewitness said the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement Army in Opposition SPLA-IO attacked the forces belonging to Commissioner of Koch County in Unity State Koang Biel. The eye said SPLA-IO took controlled the cantonment for three hours from 7:00 am, 8 :00 am and at 9:00am. “There were armed youth forces who came from Mayiandit County in Rubkuay Payam, they attacked SPLA-IO within Mirmir area they took the areas again from SPLA-IO” the eye witness said.

The late Major General Gatkhor Tut Chuol was one of the Generals who defected from SPLA-IO in December last year and joined Kit-gwang group. He was promoted as Major General by Simon Gatwich, the Chairperson and Commander-In-Chief of the Kit-gwang group. Major Gen. Gatkhor Tut Chuol was killed in the first attack yesterday morning (Wednesday 6th 2022) by SPLA-IO, he served in Kit-gwang faction for only three months before his death.  

No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper called David Gai, the Acting Minister of Information and Communication in Unity State for comment. Gai said he was sick since the previous day and was not able to talk to Media, he preferred to speak by morning of the next day (today).

The Sudan People’s Liberation Movement Army in Opposition (SPLM/A-IO) Information and Cooperation, SPLA-IO Liberation Council in Unity State Dhoal Koryom Lingling confirmed that the fighting was ongoing in Mirmir cantonment site but he said “I heard it from the people on ground 18 people were killed including Major Gen. Gatkhor Tut Chuol”, he however said there was no official communication from top leader in SPLA-IO.
