Jur River County bans alcohol consumption

Authorities in Jur River County of Western Bahr el Ghazal state have issued local orders banning alcohol consumption.

The Alcohols banned include star Gin, vodka mix, beer and Royal whisky.

The order came as a result of consultation with local chiefs with the aim of preventing crimes.

Honourable James Bak Nyiyuo is the Jur River county commissioner of Western Bahr el Ghazal state.

He directed the security organs and the executive directors to implement the order.

“Anyone who violates this order shall be fined 50,000SSP, imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months or both”.

Butrus Ajiith Akol, a resident in Wau Town welcomed the decision. 

“The order is good because it can reduce the rate of crimes but its implementation will not be effective,” Akol said.

Musa Ali Mohammed, a businessman in Western Bahr el Ghazal said the order should have been approved by the state Legislative Assembly.

“Anything related to orders is supposed to be discussed in the Assembly. This order shall have negative effects on businessmen. The government is supposed to prevent the alcohol from Borders to stop importation,” Musa stressed.
