24 traders killed in Tonj North County

At least 24 people were allegedly reported killed on Friday 15th April 2022 in Tonj North county of Warrap state.

The people who were killed on Friday evening in Warrap were confirmed to be from Mayom county of Unity State. According to the report, these 24 traders stayed in Warrap for quite a long time doing their business.

The Mayom county commissioner’s press secretary Wuor Keah Bangoang said the incident that happened between the traders and the authorities in Tonj North county of Warrap state was that some traders who were originally residents of Tonj North County received their brothers who came to sell their cattle in Tonj North county, but were suspected by county local authorities to be cattle raiders.

Therefore, the authorities in Tonj North County requested to take the cattle traders who came to sell their cattle in Tonj for further investigation.

But their brothers who are residents of Tonj North refused to release the traders who arrived to Tonj North from Mayom County and they failed to agree while talking to each other they didn’t agree to take the new arrivals to police centre.

After misunderstandings then the police started shooting traders in Tonj North county of Warrap state, they killed 24 people on spot belonging to the Unity state in Mayom county.

The county press secretary of Mayom county Wuor Keah Banang told No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspaper that the government in Unity state and authorities in Mayom will communicate with government authorities in Warrap state to give directives to Tonj North county. 

The Warrap state minister of information and communication told No. 1 Citizen Daily Newspapers through telephone that Ring Deng Ading said there was no any trader killed in Tonj North county of Warrap state.
